Genesis 1:1-5
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. God saw that the light was good, and he separated the light from the darkness. God called the light “day,” and the darkness he called “night.” And there was evening, and there was morning—the first day |
This section of scripture will be repeated several times because there is lot to say about the passage before we even start. It a section of scripture that has caused much discussion and much dissension. The description is made up of 76 words, all of them easily translatable into other languages and presenting a simple outline of a process written anyone could understand. It is not a scientific treastise, I am sure that the mathematics of the beginnings would beyond the best of our scientists. How big is your God? Could he have created the universe at the click of his fingers? Could God have created the universe in seven days? Could God have created the world using an an extended process like evolution? The answer to all three is yes! In fact the last one could only happen; if God did it. The mathematical issues of probability are so large and the requirements for life so large and specific as to make the evolutionary process highly improbable without a first cause. Then, there is that little thing called life, or something that enables us to live. That God gives but cannot be generated in a laboratory. It may be transferred from one cell to another but not made. Even transferring it is not as effective as we may like. So God created, it was written simply so all could get a picture. My question is why was God so specific about the days. |
Prayer Dear Father, the world around thinks they are clever not believing in God. If there is no God and the earth came about by accident; what is the purpose of living. I am glad that you give us purpose and we live because there is purpose; an eternity of purpose. I am thankful Father that you not only show that you love us, but you show us the way to live. More than that Father I can understand love through the example of Jesus. Father I pray that you will help me show your love around me. Help to know how to show your love to others. Amen |

The exciting issue in the early stages does not feature the creation but the nature of God, himself. Not dual, but plural as in three. Given this we see the entry of the Holy Spirit. And we see the Spirit hovering over the waters, almost working independently certainly waiting, almost pondering what is going to come next. One of the aspects of this that we need to remember is that before creation of the world the kingdom of God exited and functoned With some sort of time base. Genesis 28:11 When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. 12 He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. 13 There above it stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. This is an incredible picture. While it is in a dream it conveys a reality that the kingdom of God is is near us now. If heaven is around us and was around then, the creation of the earth becomes a different story. it would seem to me thst some of the conjectures of science need not be so severe. God would need to creat the space for the universe which seems vast to us but not like that for him. It would be just like creating a new room in a house. |
